Josehine Wingfield Henry nee Davis 10 May 1842 ~ 28 October 1899
". . . an estimable lady, a descendant of an old and honorable family of middle Georgia, daughter of Milton Grant Davis, who was a prosperous planter of antebellum days and cousin of ex-Governor Hubbard of this State [Texas]."

The year is 1842, and Josephine Wingfield Davis is born on the 10th of May, in Morgan County, Georgia. As the youngest of five children, Josephine grows up in and around Madison, which has since been defined as "Gone With the Wind" country.
A page from a family Bible lists birth dates and names for 42 slaves, with dates ranging from 1805 to 1858. Her father, Milton Grant Davis, is listed on the 1850 Slave Schedule in Morgan County along with 29 black and mulatto slaves.
Josephine's mother, America James Davis nee Fears, dies 22 April 1857, shortly before Josephine's 15th birthday.
In 1859 Josephine's entire immediate family -- her father, three brothers, and her married sister and her family -- leave Georgia, and head west to Texas. In July of 1860 they are enumerated on the Census in Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas.
Josephine marries William Paschal Henry on 1 March 1864 in Brazoria County, Texas.
