Josephine Wingfield Davis became the bride of William Paschal Henry on the 1st day of March in 1864. The wedding took place in Brazoria County, Texas. The couple would have been celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary on the 1st day of March in 1899. Could that have been the occasion of the above photographed gathering?

The following is a list of the family members present in an amateur copy of a faded photograph from the 19th century reunion of the descendants of William Paschal Henry, Sr. and his wife, Josephine Wingfield Henry nee Davis. As it turns out, this is a complete list of the living children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. P. Henry, Sr. as of the first day of the last year of the 19th century. If the following "facts" are accurate, this photo must have been made sometime during the winter of 1898-1899.

    • Laura Hamilton was born 22 March 1898
    • Jerry Lewis Sharp was born 19 September 1898

Laura and Jerry are both in the above picture.

    • Pearl Henry was born 24 May 1899
    • Frank Henry was born 10 July 1899

Pearl and Frank are NOT in the above picture.

Josephine Wingfield Henry nee Davis is also in the above family photo, and she died 28 October 1899.

On the group photo above you can see dark [image] marks both above and below the central images of Josephine & Wm. P. Perhaps these markings were placed there for the sake of the person who would create the following portrait of the married couple from the family photo.

Could it be that this portrait was created following Josephine's tragic death as a special gift / memorial for the grieving widower and / or her surviving loved ones? Mayhaps it was commissioned by one of their surviving children, e.g., Ella Mae Hamilton nee Henry (1875-1967) . . . because one of William and Josephine's 2nd great-granddaughters remembers the original of this portrait hanging in the hall of the Hamilton family home in Rockdale, Texas.
