Jack Landers' Notes 10 August 2001
)"Dear Sister" - Was this written to Amanda Boyd, Little Berry's sister-in-law, or possibly to his sister Martha A. [Vick], the second of his sisters to marry Ben M. Seale and remain in Mississippi?
)"Joe and Jim" - L.B.F. Vick's son Joseph Henry Vick and Jim Marquis, father of William Jart, Joseph E., and Richard Powell Marquis?
)"Burton" - Burton, (presently Washington County), Texas?
)"...fifty persons...going to Texas..." - Apparently a general migration from the older States to Texas was going on.
)"...we were Texans..." - Living in Texas from December 1869 'til February 1871 [about 14 months] was apparently sufficient to establish residence!
)"Plenty of everything...no hard times here like there is there." - L. B. F. Vick was either very optimistic about the prospects in Texas, or was trying to convince himself that it was so!
)"...remaining your affectionate brother" - See 1) above! Perhaps this was an appropriate closing for a letter to your wife's sister, but I lean to the notion that this letter was written to Little Berry's own sister, Martha.
