Miss Amanda Boyd
I now endeavor to write you a few lines to let you know we are all well. You must not think it negligence in me not writing before now. I did not have any paper or envelopes. I hardly know how to answer this as I know no news to write whatever. We have had a pretty spell of weather since January come in.
Berry and Hartwell are building a house for Mr. Sykes. They have got it up. I expect they will get it ready to cover this evening. It is a box house with a shed room and they talk of putting another room to the end for a dining room. Mr. Sykes has rented land from them this year. Alph Sikes is going to work with him.
Billy Sykes has rented land from Uncle Thomas and he is building a house for Billy. He has got it up and will go to work as soon as he can get the lumber sawed.
John has hired a young man for this year and furnished everything and gives him half he can make.
Hartwell has hired Jim Marquis the same way.
I understand Bill Marquis has hired Nobe Adams.
I am sorry to tell you Lizzy Perry has been so unfortunate. She has married a man that has a wife and child living in Miss[.] and never has been divorced from her. They are now separated until he can get a divorce from his other wife[.][H]e also had another wife that died[.]
Johnson Perry and family has moved to Caldwell County. Lizzie is living at Johnson's old place.
They preached in the new church Sunday for the first time although it is not finished yet.
The children are still going to school.
Berry and Thomas will not be out there this winter as Mr. Lampkins can't pay anything on the land.
How is Jimmy getting along and has he bought a lot of the old grave yard. Do you know who owns the lot that Martha Jane is buried in. Has Mr[.] Ritchey and Sister ever put any tombstones over their children's graves[?]
What has become of Miss Margaret Nason[?] Is she still teaching school[?]
Where is Mr[.] Ed Richey and his lady living his year[?]
Is Mrs[.] Goins living with her mother this year[?]
Is Nannie and Bell Valentine living with their grandmother yet[?]
Well, as I can't think of nothing more to write, I will come to a close by asking you to write soon. All sends their love to you and Sister and family. Give my love to all and reserve a goodly portion for yourself.
Your affectionate sister[,]
(Mary Caroline Boyd Vick )
